The True Sounds of Mellotron and Chamberlin
The classic sound of the Mellotron has been heard on countless records of all genres since they were originally released in 1963. Often considered one of the earliest samplers, the Mellotron and its predecessor The Chamberlin worked by triggering a recording of an instrument whenever you hit the associated keys. You could change the sound of the instrument by swapping out different recordings via magnetic tape, allowing you to use the sounds of a full orchestra from a single keyboard. Due to the mechanical nature of the instrument, the Mellotron produced a unique sound all its own. For this same reason, original Mellotron’s were plagued by mechanical issues and in constant need of service. Combined with their weight (a whopping 122 lbs for the most portable version!), the Mellotron was quickly retired from touring once polyphonic synthesizers became more available.
Rebirth of a Classic
Markus Resch, a lifelong fan of the Mellotron and regular service tech since 1989, has brought back the instrument with the touring musician in mind. While he still manufactures tape-based models, the release of digital Mellotrons has brought the classic sound and feel of the instrument in a portable, less volatile package. These instruments come in a wide range of sizes, from the Mellotron M4000D which features wooden keys, polyphonic aftertouch, and a gorgeous design reminiscent of the classic models. Other models include the Mini, Micro, and Rack versions, offering the same nostalgic sounds as the original designed to fit any workflow. Mellotron have also made numerous expansion cards with additional sounds, iconic rhythm accompaniament tracks, and custom sounds recorded for bands like Yes, Black Sabbath, Wilco, and Foo Fighters.
More Than Just A Sampler
While there have been a variety of Mellotron sample-packs of varying quality released over the years, the Mellotron M4000D series uses the highest-quality, 24-bit lossless recordings of the original master tapes from the Mellotron and Chamberlin. This compilation of premium sounds covers everything you know and love from the original with some new and unreleased sounds. Bask in the legendary brass and woodwind sounds including flutes, french horn, clarinets, trumpets, and bassoons. Lift your productions with the warm orchestral sounds of violins (plucked and bowed), cellos, harps, and choirs. Explore a range of organs, pianos, accordians, guitars, mandolin, and more, all taken from the original tapes of the most historic Mellotron and Chamberlin instruments. To ensure the highest fidelity possible, the Mellotron company developed advanced streaming technology to ensure the fastest and highest quality audio streaming in a lossless 24-bit format.
Stack and Blend
On the early vintage models, an engineering “flaw” allowed players to stack sounds by jamming the sound selector in between two adjacent sounds to play them both at the same time. Obviously, this was both unreliable and incredibly limited. The new digital models expand on this idea by offering access to any two sounds at any time. With two sound slots labeled “A” and “B,” you can easily switch between two sounds for different song sections, or create entirely new blends of instruments. This opens up an entirely new world of sounds. Use the attack of a harpsichord with the sustain of a choir, pizzicato strings layered with a saxophone, or any other combination you can imagine! With the exception of the Micro, all versions of the Mellotron M4000D offer outputs for both Sound A and Sound B along with the Master Output of the blended signal.
Six Knobs, One Switch, Endless Inspiration
The front panel of the Mellotron 4000D is simple, gorgeous, and very playable. The two “Select” knobs allow you to choose your sounds while the “Mix” control lets you adjust the balance between them. A simple “Tone” control is reminiscent of the same knob on a guitar, darkening the tone for additional vibe. Fine-tune your sounds with the pitch control, or use it to make a manual vibrato! Lastly, the “High/Low” switch allows you to play the sounds at their original pitch or drop it down an octave by playing them back in half-speed, just like the original!
Bend and Color
Despite the seemingly simple controls on the front panel, the Mellotron M4000D series offers a number of easy to reach functions that offer a wide range of tonal colors to shape your sounds. Choose from four different Character Settings, from the sound of an M400 with bright, clean tapes or choose the darker, dirtier EQ’d tapes from the 70’s. Thin things out with the sound of the Chamberlin M1, or embrace the lush, rich sounds of the Mellotron Mk II. Add in Motor Modulation to bring in the warble of the tape’s capstan, ranging from clean and stable all the way to the gorgeous sounds of a sea-sick tape machine in need of service. You can even adjust the time it takes for the sounds to drop to pitch when you switch the half speed setting!
Built for Performance
Other handy features include the ability to save favorite sounds and create “playlists,” perfect for cueuing up your sounds for a live show. The exceptional build quality ensures a long life on the road while the dual screens let you know exactly what you’re working with at a glance, while the gorgeous design and backlighting makes the Mellotron M4000D series an eye catching instrument that looks as good as it sounds! Whether you go for the classic wooden keys of the M4000D, the slim figure of the Mini, the backpack-friendly Micro, or load the Rack version into your synth rig, the Mellotron M4000D series will bring all the sound and feel of this legendary instrument with none of the hassle!

Sound
The most important element of any instrument is the sound. MODX6+ makes all elements of your music sound amazing. MODX6+ uses the same technology that powers the flagship Montage: 128 notes of AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sample and synthesis polyphony for stunning emulative acoustic instruments, synth sounds and drums. MODX6+ also features 128 notes of FM-X (Frequency Modulation) polyphony – a unique, expressive, highly-programmable synthesis technology for dynamic, electro-modern music creation.
Control
Every artist wants to find their own sound. Motion Control is designed to bring the sophisticated automation of music production to realtime live performances, all to help you create inspired music that stands out on every stage, studio or stream.
Mobility
Designed for musicians on the go and weighing in at just 14.6 pounds, MODX6+ is compact, lightweight and mobile.
AWM2
The AWM2 engine is exclusive to Yamaha synthesizers and offers much more than just sample playback. Each of the 16 AWM2 Parts feature 8 programmable synthesizers with 18 different filter types, amplitude, pitch and filter envelope generators, 9 LFOs, 3-band EQ and a dedicated dual insert effect with Virtual Circuitry Modeling.
FM-X
Everything you love about the iconic DX7 meets the latest Yamaha innovations. FM-X produces classic 80s or cutting-edge EDM synthesizer sound with incredible dynamic range, power and fidelity. MODX6+ goes well beyond the capabilities of the original DX7 with an 8-operator FM architecture, 128-note polyphony, many filter types and more – all with Motion Control for ever-evolving and changing textures to create sounds no one has ever heard before.
Smart Morph
Smart Morph enables morphing between FM-X sounds. Its sophisticated AI algorithm creates an interactive morphing map from up to eight FM-X sounds. You can then 'play' this map from the touchscreen or use the Super Knob to move between two points. The result is a staggering number of interesting and interactive new sounds.
256-note total polyphony
MODX6+ features 128-note stereo AWM2 polyphony and 128 notes of FM-X polyphony. Thanks to the unique architecture of MODX+ and Montage, this polyphony is always available without latency or compromising other features.
Effects
MODX6+ is packed with DSP innovation, power and sound quality to bring you everything from high-definition reverbs to detailed Virtual Circuit Modeling (VCM) effects. Get EDM sound with effects like Beat Repeat, Vinyl Break or Bit Crusher. Use the Spiralizer effect to create the auditory illusion of tone continuously rising or falling in pitch. Add a compressor with sidechain for a modern 'ducking' effect. Or go retro with vintage effects like Analog Delay, VCM Phaser or a variety of Amp Simulators. Piano players will feel like they're in heaven (or some other incredible performance space) with piano-focused effects like Damper Resonance and HD reverbs for a super-realistic piano experience.
A/D input
A stereo A/D input allows you to bring external sources like analog synthesizers, vocals and other instruments into the MODX6+ motion control system, which means MODX6+ control goes well beyond simple onboard effect processing. Control individual parameters with the physical controls or have MODX6+ provide 'invisible hands' using Motion Control. Add the Vocoder, Envelope Follower and Auto Beat Sync and it's like the A/D input on MODX6+ becomes an instrument unto itself.
Sidechain
Sidechain is a popular effect in modern dance music where a pad or other sustain part is keyed to the kick drum. When the kick drum plays, it ducks down the sustained part, creating a pumping rhythmic effect.
Share with Soundmondo
Soundmondo is a social sound sharing network that lets you store and recall MODX+ and Motage Performances and share them with other users. Each stored Performance can be rated, named and given a custom image from your photo library. The Soundmondo app for iOS lets you upload and download new Performances directly to MODX6s+ with an iOS device.
Patch compatibility
Out of the box, MODX6+ gives you access to sounds made by Yamaha's world-class sound designers and artists, including sounds from the Motif series as well as the legendary DX7 – you'll have a massive sound library at your fingertips! MODX6+ is directly compatible with Motif XS/XF Voices and Performances. The free online FM converter webapp makes it compatible with DX7, DX7II, TX802 and TX816 synthesizer content as well.
DAW Integration
MODX+ Connect is a convenient tool that lets you transfer data between your computer and MODX6+. Song data created on the MODX6+ can be transferred to your computer, and the Performance data edited on the MODX6+ can be saved as a file on the computer. MODX+ Connect works standalone or as a VST or AU plug-in, allowing you to save the edited settings of MODX6+ and use them for another project.
Multi-channel USB audio interface
As expected for modern computer-based music production, MODX6+ features a professional 4-in/10-out, multi-channel USB audio interface. Coupled with two A/D inputs, MODX6+ is a perfect centerpiece for any professional recording studio or live computer rig. A single-cable connection replaces the need for an external audio interface!
Rhythm Pattern
Drummer running late again? MODX+ Rhythm Pattern is like a built-in drum machine with easy access to thousands of patterns from a front panel button. Quickly add a rhythm when songwriting, practicing or waiting for the drummer to set up (or show up).
Super Knob
Super Knob is to shaping sound as a conductor is to an orchestra: it directs individual dynamic elements into a single musical expression. Like a conductor, the Super Knob can tell one player to turn up while another turns down. You can change the shape of notes from long to short, bright to dark or move a player from being right next to you to the back of the concert hall. Super Knob allows simultaneous control of up to 128 parameters in a single Performance. This means you can control mix functions like volume, pan and effect sends or detailed synth parameters like filters, LFOs and Operators. You can even control Super Knob with an expression pedal, making it easy to manipulate the sound even while playing with both hands.
Motion Sequence
Motion Sequences are tempo-synchronized, completely customizable control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any synthesizer parameter and provide incredible new ways of creating sound. Motion Sequences also have dedicated controls on the front panel, making it easy to manipulate and change in real-time, providing incredible interactivity and expression.
Envelope Follower
The Envelope Follower converts audio into a control source for control of virtually any synthesizer parameter. For example, a drum loop could drive effects parameters for a cool rhythm, or a vocal recording could control multiple parameters for a 'talking' synthesizer. The audio can even be a live source through the A/D input.
Audio Beat Sync
Audio Beat Sync (ABS) detects the beat of an external device like an electronic drum kit, drum machine or audio player plugged into the A/D input and synchronizes the MODX6+ Arpeggiator, Motion Sequencer or Songs to the tempo of the external input.
Rubber coated pitch bend and mod wheels
Just like the flagship Montage, MODX6+ has rubber-coated pitch and modulation wheels for a premium feel when performing.

Sequential Take 5 - Compact Five-Voice Poly Synth
$2,029.00
Compact and portable five-voice VCO/VCF-based poly synth designed with both synth newcomers and space-conscious pros in mind.
A full-featured subtractive synthesizer, the Take 5 sports two VCOs and a sub oscillator per voice, a classic 4-pole, resonant analog filter from the Prophet-5 Rev 4 design, 44 full-size keys, and a premium Fatar keybed. Its clever key-split feature gives players access to a wider playable range than many other compact synths by enabling players to divide the 3.5 octave keyboard into two separate performance zones. Dual Digital effects and a dedicated overdrive, continuously variable wave shaping, and front-panel access to analog FM ensure the Take 5 can cover a wide range of sonic territory, from vintage to modern.
This versatility comes from the Take 5’s sound engine. Two voltage-controlled oscillators provide traditional sine, saw, and pulse waves with waveshaping, while simple analog FM adds harmonically complex, bell-like FM timbres at need. The Prophet-5-lineage 4-pole analog filter shapes the sound of the oscillators and sub oscillator in classic fashion while a Drive control provides additional punch. For still more warmth, a Vintage knob adds micro variations to oscillator, filter, and envelope behavior from voice to voice.
The Take 5 feature set is rounded out with two LFOs (1 global, and 1 per-voice LFO), ADSR+delay envelopes, dual digital effects (a dedicated reverb and a suite of time-delay and other effects) a separate additional overdrive effect, and extensive modulation possibilities. A 64-step polyphonic sequencer and multimode arpeggiator complete the picture.
OSCILLATORS
• Two analog VCOs per voice
• Continuously variable wave shape (sine, sawtooth, variable-width pulse) per oscillator
• Hard sync: oscillator 1 syncs to oscillator 2
• Square wave sub-octave generator (oscillator 1) per voice
• Keyboard tracking on/off for each oscillator
• Front-panel FM (frequency modulation) MIXER
• Oscillator 1 amount
• Oscillator 1 sub-octave amount
• Oscillator 2 amount
• White noise amount LOW-PASS FILTER
• Four-pole, resonant, analog low-pass filter per voice, based on Prophet 5 Rev 4 design
• Filter can be driven into self-oscillation with the Resonance control
• Bi-polar filter envelope amount
ENVELOPES
• Two 5-stage envelope generators (ADSR + delay) with variable routing (filter, amplifier, gate)
• Velocity modulation of each envelope amount
• Envelopes freely assignable to multiple modulation destinations
LOW FREQUENCY OSCILLATOR
• Five wave shapes: triangle, sawtooth, reverse sawtooth, square, and random (sample and hold)
• Clock sync (internal or external MIDI clock)
• Freely assignable to multiple modulation destinations
DIGITAL EFFECTS
• One dedicated reverb with damping, pre-delay, decay and tone
• One multi-effect with stereo delay, BBD delay, tape delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, ring mod, vintage rotating speaker, distortion, high-pass filter
• Dedicated Overdrive effect
VINTAGE KNOB
• Recreates the characteristics of vintage synthesizers by introducing micro-fluctuations in oscillators, filter, and envelopes per voice.
